My Weekend in Pictures

Friday night was dinner and massages with my mama and Mady :)

And yeah, those are lines on my face because I fell asleep while getting a massage

Saturday morning was spent running 7.5 miles of wet, hilly trails that had just a few sheep...

Then the hubs and I hit up a cute little cafe. The baked vegan maple pecan donut was pretty amazing.

We took the kids to see Beauty and the Beast. My eyes may have watered during the Belle and Beast dance scene...

Then family pics and dinner @ Firestore. Everything there is delicious. Mady and I split a salad and I still have leftovers for today!

Sunday started early with a cup of joe

And a waffle as big as my head for breakfast 

Then church, family dinner, and s'mores!

Friday Favs

I did a lot of running with the hubs and littles this week, and this is seriously one of my very favorite things ever! Monday, we jogged a 1/2 mi, walked a 1/2 mile twice; Tuesday we did the same but a different route. It was raining Wednesday so the kids took turns running repeats on the treadmill while I did some strength and core training. Thursday was the best because we ran a mile (8:30 pace) and as long as the kids stayed in front of us with no complaints, they got a double scoop of ice cream from RiteAid and then we walked back home. It was the best!

We finished out the night watching my school's track meet, watching The Flash, and eating pulled pork quesadillas!

My favorite workout this week was Fitness Blender's Advanced Ab Workout. It was definitely a good workout and my abs were sore the next day!

My chicken tortellini soup was pretty awesomesauce this week!

And we got to go to one of my favorite places soon, Monterey! The youngest is doing his state project on Cannery Row, and our former babysitter lives there, and we scored a hotel on the beach for super cheap!

What I'm most looking forward to this weekend: coffee, running with friends, Beauty and the Beast with the fam, a massage with my mama, church, and more family time!

WIAW

I've had lots of good eats this week!

Promise me that if you're ever in Palm Springs, you have to eat at Sherman's Deli! The hubs and I shared a BBQ brisket sandwich and a piece of carrot cake. It was amazing!!

I learned how to make a poached egg this week! It was so stinking easy! I cracked the egg into a bowl and as soon as my water was at a soft boil I dropped the egg in (nice and easy) and set the timer for 4 minutes and it came out perfect!
Of course I had to make it again, but I love getting vegetables in in the morning, so I toasted an English muffin, added some lettuce and I grilled up some sliced chicken breast and added my poached egg in. So yummy!

My favorite dinner this week was ham and swiss sammies on Hawaiian bread. I added a little bit of spray butter and heated them in the oven at 350 for about 10 minutes and served them alongside a cobb salad.

And lastly, for the one thing that I may avoid for a while, even though it was so yummy! Salted caramel pretzel froyo with Reece's. I had this Saturday night and my stomach hurt all the way into Monday (what the heck??)

Tangent Tuesday

The hubs and I just got back from Palm Springs where we attended a technology conference. I definitely learned a ton and walked my booty off between it being located in 5 different hotels/conference center.


We managed to stop at Cafe Rio on the way there. I was super pumped because we don’t have one in town, and let me just say that their tortillas are awesomesauce!

I also asked him lots of dating questions and we listened to Serial Season 2.


Our hotel was eh, so we did a good job of keeping busy. We managed to run both mornings that we were there and we made it home to the muchkins on Friday night. We also had the best sunset while driving back through LA.



Saturday was spent doing NOTHING. It felt amazing to just hang with the kids, swim, play games, and relax. The kitty sure missed us.


Sunday was a different story. One of our running friends hit his 1 year running streak, so he wanted to celebrate with what else? A run! We ran around 8 miles because my IT band started to squeak a little and I was having major tummy issues. We finished out the day with grocery shopping, donuts, church, work, and a family bbq. Whew!


The middle signed up for track (Yipee!!) so we are working up to running two miles without a break. The other two are joining in on this :) Not the track part, but the running part.

I think our running partner has talked us into another 1/2 marathon. SLO Marathon It’ll leave us with about 6 weeks of training. Now, I’m on the search for a good, fast, 6 week plan.

Crushing PR's

Happy Tuesday!!

The hubs and I traveled up to Auberry, CA for our race last weekend. We brought my mama and the kids. They hung at the hotel while we ran and then we met up for a movie and then took the kiddos to the Rock & Worship Roadshow at the Savemart Center.



 Two of my xc ran the race & I finished between them! Jojo beat me by a minute and I beat Xavier by a minute. I ran with Jojo most of the race but once we had about 2 miles left, he decided that he needed to beat me :) And I watched Xavier run into a trashcan and hurdle a cone, which was pretty entertaining.

 Our entire group that we ran with managed to finish in the top 100 so we all got top 100 mugs!!
 8th woman, 34th overall, with a PR by 6 minutes :) I'll take it! Now, let me be clear this race was definitely downhill, minus a few uphills at the very beginning.


 The Rock & Worship Roadshow has become one of our favorite things to do with our kiddos! There was something like 6-7 bands, we even left early after being there for 3 1/2 hours and we didn't feel like we missed anything because there were so many bands to listen to. There is nothing that makes me happier than seeing my kiddos dance, sing, and worship Jesus.

After making it home after 11pm, the hubs and I took a mental health day. We did manage to clean up the backyard for spring but other than that, we soaked in a hot tub, watched our shows, and napped. My body has maybe never been this sore before. But it was worth it!

Coffee is always better in a top 100 mug!

Happy Birthday, Sweet Girl!

Today's the day I become a Mama of a teenager. Wow. Exactly 13 years ago, I was hauling up and down stairs helping my sister and her family move and unpack. I vividly remember the hubs taking the day off so that he could go with me to my doctor's appt (I was 6 days over due!) so we took advantage of the time off to go and hang my sister's blinds for her :) Little did we know that my 3 o'clock appt would turn in to my doctor laughing because I was already dilated to a 7 and in active labor but not in any pain.

The hubs and I headed home to pack a bag and grab dinner (a bean burrito) before heading to the hospital. My sweet angel girl was born promptly at 11:03, about 4 hours after getting to the hospital. I was shocked that she had curly black hair (I was bald until I was 2!) She was such a serious baby. She was a deep thinker. She loved food and sleep! Now she loves to read and debate (and sleep and eat!).

Her hair turned out adorable and she was genuinely shocked when I picked her up from school early. I lied and told her she had her yearly doctor's appt and she was not happy! I couldn't keep it up though and she was so excited to get her hair done!
After running hills this morning, we stopped on the way home to get her an apple fritter and we surprised her with that, a turquoise Starbucks cup, and a "Straight Outta 2004" t-shirt. The fact that she understood the shirt perfectly and was thrilled to wear it is just one of the many reasons I love her!

Mindfulness

During this Lenten season, I am trying to focus on intention and mindfulness in everything that I do. This included taking some of my social media apps off of my phone. It's kind of crazy how not deleting an account, but just taking the app off my phone has deterred me from checking certain things on my phone multiple times a day. Two things that I am working on changing is staying off my phone in the car, not while I'm driving but when the hubs is. It really helps me to focus on those around me and having real conversations! The second thing is to either leave my phone in my bag or put it away as soon as I get home. These little tweaks seem to really help!

Okay, tangents.

My baby girl is turning 13 tomorrow!! What?!
She had a sleepover on Friday night. Today, I'm picking her up early to get her hair trimmed (and maybe even a few highlights!) and tomorrow we are meeting up with Grammie to get our nails done. Thursday will be her family birthday dinner. We like to extend our birthday celebrations around here!

Saturday morning, I had a fantastic solo run (while listening to Run Selfie Repeat) 6 miles @ 8:07. Sunday, I had 10 miles scheduled and barely managed to finish 6 @ 8:50. My legs were lead, my stomach hurt, I was a mess. It happens and I trust the process. I was tired. Hello Friday night sleepover! And my body needed a rest. I took Monday off (did some strength and HIIT) and today's run felt soo much better! All of that to say that it is so crucial to listen to our bodies!

I am racing the Heavenly Half this weekend. This will be (fingers crossed) my first time actually getting to complete this race injury free! 4 years ago, I ran/walked it with a broken hand (less than a week post surgery) and 2 years ago, I was completely out because I tore my plantar fascia.

So, my goals for this race are to:
1. Stay healthy and injury free
2. Have fun
3. Get a PR (it's a downhill course)

The whole family is coming for the race (including my mom) and afterwards we are taking the kids to a movie and then to a concert later that night, so it should be an exciting weekend!
