No More Christmas

Christmas is officially cleaned up and put away! We are one day later than usual because Luke and I have a nasty cold.

No running yesterday or today (so far) but 6 miles on Christmas Eve and 4 miles on Christmas. I had a deep tissue massage on Christmas Eve and my knee seems to be tolerating running a little more so fingers crossed!!

Some goals/thoughts for the last week of 2016:
-sugar detox for 7 days. Ultimately I would like to make it 30 days but I am starting with something small and attainable. I talked my sister into joining me and being my accountability partner! More than anything, I just want to feel better!

-date with each of my littles this week (and the hubs too!)
-stretching each night
-tucking my babes into bed each night
-starting my day in the word

Birthday Thoughts

I am officially 35. I don't feel 35 (most days!). I truly forget my age sometimes, that is until I see someone else my age and realize that they don't look 20 anymore, so I must not be 20 either.

My favorite things about being 35:
-The stability of my job, house, etc.
-I have great hair. It's taken me some time to figure out how to tame the beast but it's tamed ;)
-I am stronger now than I was in my 20s, both physically and mentally.
-My kids are much more fun now than they were even 5 years ago.
-The freedom to travel with my family.
-My tribe.
-My relationship with my hubby gets better/stronger/more fun each year

Having a December birthday can be a little tough because the month is so stinking busy. I have found that it's so much easier to just plan something and tell the hubs exactly what I would like to do. So, yesterday began with him getting me coffee.

What 35 looks like:
Then lots of bday wishes from my students (and thank goodness no singing because the bday song makes me feel super uncomfortable!). Then Ray took me to lunch. Then a peppermint latte and I got my hair done, followed by dinner with the family.

We have 3 December birthdays so we tend to celebrate them all at once, which I have grown to love.

This was also my first birthday without my dad. I'm not sad for him because I know where he's at. He's not in any pain and I know how proud he was of me and how much he loved me when he left this world. One of his very favorite things was coffee and especially Starbucks. It was kind of a joke that I made sure to get him a Starbucks gift card for his birthday, Father’s Day, and Christmas and it hit me in Starbucks the other day that I wouldn't be getting him a card this year. So my sister, whose bday is 12/6, got me a Starbucks card to carry on the tradition.

Happy Wednesday!

What are some of your favorite birthday/holiday traditions?

So Much!!

It's been awhile since I've blogged so I have so much to talk about!

I signed up with the hubs for CIM next year on 12/3!

I am still planning on running the Redding Marathon 1/15 but I am having some knee issues that I am hoping to work through!

The holidays are here! We made cinnamon rolls for our neighbors, and kept an extra pan for Christmas morning and tested out a shortbread/sugar cookie recipe that turned out awesome! We’ll make cookies again with the niece and nephew on Christmas Eve.

I totally got spoiled by our runners and their parents at the sports award banquet: an awesome XC wreath, movie gift cards, a coach’s hat (in hot pink and gold!), an ornament, a necklace, and maybe my favorite - a Starbucks cup that gets free refills for the entire month of January!

Running: last week was 26 miles, still recovering somewhat. This week will end up being around 42.5 if I can get through an easy 10k today. Thursday, I ran during my prep period after working through my lunch and it was awesome! The weather was perfect. I was on dirt, it felt great.

Friday was a different story. I have had an achy knee most of the week after running hills (hard) on Sunday. Yesterday started out achy and by mile 3 was painful. By mile 4 I was crying and could barely jog so my lovely husband sprinted home and met me at mile 5. I jogged a little more because I was freezing. Over the last 5 years, I've only had to stop mid-run 4 times. Wish me luck today!

Weekend plans include: date night with the hubs on Friday night, basket deliveries for the church on Saturday, more cookie or gingerbread making (haven't decided which yet), church, and grocery shopping.

WIAW (a day late) + Ramblings

For those of you who don’t know about Umpqua Ice Cream, it’s the bombski! They are a company based in the NW and their ice cream is seriously the best and thankfully it is sold in my local grocery store. My favorite flavors are 4. Birthday Cake 3. Chocolate Brownie Thunder 2. Peanut Butter Fudge 1. Peppermint. Also, a favorable mention is their fat free frozen yogurts.

Now that it’s getting cold, I have been craving oatmeal for breakfast. I could probably eat oatmeal Right now, I’m digging oatmeal with a scoop of vanilla Vega, and cinnamon. I think I like oatmeal so much because you can change it up depending on what you add to it. My other favorite is a banana and sliced almonds.

Another favorite thing I discovered this week are purple sweet potatoes! They cook up a little crunchier than regular orange sweet potatoes. They would make the perfect baked sweet potato fries and they are so beautiful! Be warned though, they will dye your hands a little purple.

Ramblings: I’m pretty sure that my cat likes my husband more than me and it’s super annoying.

Running this week has gone well. Getting up to run this week has not gone as well. I’m pretty sure I have vacation hangover. I just couldn’t get myself up yesterday morning, so we slept in and then I was just exhausted And then I ate like crap because I was exhausted. This also means I only run on the treadmill after eating junk because I have stomach issues. It really is self-sabotaging and I know that. Now I need to change that. Annoying.

So, today, this week, this month, the rest of this year is trying to figure out some balance. I’m really focusing on just trying to take one day at a time.

Therefore, my daily goals today:
-Keep my macros in check today
-Spend some quiet time with the hubs
-Tuck my kiddos into bed
-Daily devotion

That’s it! Super simple, just how I like it :)
