12 miles in the books this morning. It sucked. Every minute of it. This was my first really cold, long run. Last winter, I would run later in the day so it wasn't as bad, but now that the hubs is going with me, we go super early so we can be back early and get our family time in. Between the PF and having a bit of a cold, my foot still hurts and my lungs are still burning. Ick.
But our pace was okay and this sunrise
And this is how I want to spend the rest of my Sunday
We both got royally hooked up by a former student at the shoe store yesterday.
I'm rotating between Brooks Trancends and Saucony ISO Triumphs. My long run was in the Sauconeys today because I haven't broken in the Brooks yet.
Some of our current traditions: getting hot chocolate and looking at Christmas lights, Chinese food with the inlaws on Christmas Eve, reading the Night Before Christmas, reading the story of Jesus' birth, homemade cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning, and building Gingerbread houses.
Some things I would like to add for next year: hanging of the green at our church, candy cane hunt, adopting a family... What else?
The kids got iPods for Christmas and they were pretty stocked!
I had this for breakfast and looking at it makes me hungry all over again
I went to the podiatrist last week and it's for sure plantar fasciitis. It was interesting to look at the ultrasound of my foot because I could definitely see the inflamed tendon. The plan for now is oral cortisone, a night splint
and lots of icing
This bottle is 1/3 rubbing alcohol and 2/3 water. I put it in the freezer and it doesn't freeze into a solid mass due to the alcohol, so it's nice and pliable. And Dr. Z said to never ever go bare foot. He warned me that I am genetically predisposed to it because of the shape and angle of my foot and ankle.
The next step will be shock wave therapy and physical therapy. He said his first step would be shock wave but it's super expensive, so we'll hold off a bit. He also mentioned getting orthotics for a long term benefit.
I am already feeling a significant improvement; I don't know if it's my new supportive shoes, the cortisone, the boot, or a mixture of all 3, but I'll take it!
I decided to skip the run yesterday morning. We still handed out boxes from our church, came home and had lunch, and napped. We headed out to look at new shoes. I'm hoping to find an easy fix for this silly heel pain. I ultimately decided to wait until I talk to the foot doctor before getting new shoes, because what he says will determine the type of shoes I need.
Friday night, we took our friend's kiddos to look at Christmas lights so they could go on a date. We also took my four year old niece. The kids had a great time, but my niece woke up sick on Saturday, so I made her this video.
The Christmas party was fun and we even got to wear our pj's!
Sunday morning we woke up and went on our run. I still feel some pain in my heel, it's more like a bruise and I made sure to ice it the second we got home. Our pace was great, average of 8:35 for 10 miles. We also had negative splits, which is nice. About 6 miles into our run, we stopped to ask a little old lady if she was okay, she looked a little discombobulated. Apparently, she found a brand new iPhone in the street and had no idea what to do with it, so the hubs and I offered to try and find the owner. Siri wouldn't give us any info other than the name of the owner and he happened to have a FB, so the hubs messaged him and told him to call his phone so that we could get it back to him. We've yet to hear from him, so I'm thinking maybe he doesn't even know his phone is missing. Crazy.
I'm going to cancel my foot appointment tomorrow and schedule with a different doctor. One of my friends just got a jones fracture that required surgery, so he met with multiple doctors around town and I want to schedule with the one that he was most impressed with.
The hubs planned for me to go shopping with my girlfriends today since we didn't make it out of town yesterday (nap > going out of town for shopping). Happy shopping ;)
It's been a few days ;) Between 11/19-1/3, we have 6 birthdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas!
My sis turned 50 and we had a big shin dig at our house
I think my introverted sister (I am too, so I can say it :) enjoyed herself!
The hubs and I have been training pretty well, until Sunday morning when I woke up with some crazy heel pain :(
I've been rolling it out with ice and my chiropractor adjusted it. I have minimal pain 5 days later, so we're going to attempt a run this weekend. The bad thing is that it's not super painful while I'm running, it's afterwards.
Here's what I wore for sister's party.
The best part of our tree is the topper!!
Mady girl had her choir concert last night
We took the kids to Taco Bell since it was a crazy night and I got the best sauces! For those of you who don't know, I'm left handed and only 5'4".
Let the bday celebrations begin! I'll be 33 tomorrow. We're starting the day with our attempted run (10 miles), passing out Christmas boxes with our church, driving an hour and a half to my fav restaurant and finishing off the night with our Sunday School Christmas party.
